Physical Therapy for Pelvic Floor Issues
Many women, and even men, suffer from Pelvic Floor issues. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles at the base of your pelvis. Their job is to support and lift your organs and to control the release of urine, bowels and wind. They also delay emptying until it is convenient. Pelvic floor issues often occur during or after pregnancy but can happen at any time. Often these symptoms will not become noticeable until years after you’ve given birth. (And yes, they can happen if you’ve had a C-section too!)
Men, children and women who have never had children can also suffer from pelvic floor issues!
Pelvic Floor/Women’s Health is a specialty of Physical Therapy requiring extensive knowledge and training. Until recently, these services were not available to our community without travelling a great distance. At TBTW we know that many people in our rural community cannot or choose not to travel for their healthcare services. As a result, many people continue to suffer these painful and embarrassing issues.
We have great news! Here at Total Body Therapy and Wellness we have expanded our services to include Pelvic Floor & Women’s Health Treatment!
TBTW now has Physical Therapists and PTA’s certified in Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise (PCES). Our certified professionals focus on proven corrective exercises that progress pregnant or postpartum patients with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (leaks, tightness, and prolapse), Diastasis Recti, SI Joint Pain, and Low Back Pain back into their “normal” lives again.
We are passionate about finding solutions to the problems our community faces. Through our comprehensive program we have healed many patients with prolapse, leaking, pelvic floor pain and tightness, diastasis recti, hip pain and much more.
The many Pelvic Floor Dysfunction sufferers are told to “do your kegels”. This can work well for some but for others, it’s ineffective and simply not enough. Those who are not seeing improvement from doing their kegels will need a total body approach.
Building strength can help to improve weakness, tightness, prolapse and other symptoms. With a lack of strength, everyday tasks become harder and place additional pressure on the pelvic floor or prolapse. Total body strength is critical to improve your pelvic floor function to allow you to return to your everyday life without pain or embarrassing symptoms.
Whether your goal is high-intensity exercise, hiking, walking or playing with your family, our expert PCES Therapists have the knowledge, training and expertise to get you there.
