What are Custom Orthotics?
Custom orthotics are devices that are individually created to uniquely fit your feet. They resemble insoles but are specifically crafted and made of materials that will last longer than prefabricated orthotics from the pharmacy. They are sometimes referred to as prescription glasses for each of your feet.
Although custom orthotics are more expensive than off-the-shelf devices, they last much longer and provide more support or correction. Orthotic inserts will improve how your feet and lower legs feel and function. Quality orthotics can alleviate pressure, eliminate pain, and promote stability. It’s important to receive custom orthotics that are created to fit the exact shape of your foot in order to receive the maximum benefits.
As you can see here, this shows someone with a flat foot. You can see that the low arch causes the ankle to lean inwards. This also causes the posture of the leg, knee, hip and lower back to change. This shows how even a small change in foot shape can cause big problems to areas throughout the rest of the body.
The left foot shows the same person with a proper fitting orthotic. Note how this not only improves the posture of the foot, but the ankle, leg, knee and other areas are now allowed to function and move properly.
TBTW Utilizes VASYLI Orthotic Technology to Fit Your Insert!
The VASYLI + Howard Dananberg (VHD) orthotic is the worlds first professional orthotic device with removable 1st ray sections. You can remove proximal and distal plugs individually or together, as needed, making treatment of 1st ray function easier.
To accommodate variations in the length of a patient’s foot and toes, you can remove the plugs when fitting the orthotic, ensuring the head of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MPJ) coincides with the removed plug.
In cases where maximum effect is required, such as with structural hallux limitus (SHL), you can remove both plugs. This enhances 1st ray function by offering a larger path of least resistance to the joint.
This orthotic is heat moldable to your foot, allowing the insert to be customized to your personal foot. Your therapist can also choose from a selection of additions to fine-tune the orthotic as needed.
The flexibility of the VHD design allows for a wide combination of applications to address your tri-planar motion problems.
After you have received your orthotics it will likely be necessary to provide an ongoing assessment of how your orthotics are working. Fine tuning may be needed to provide the best results possible.
