Hi, my name is Sarah Barker and I am the CEO and founder of  The Healthy Home Revolution, an online community designed to support, encourage and empower other busy moms!!

I’ve been married to my wonderful husband, John, for 10 years now and we have two beautiful kids, Owen (7) and Nina (5).

We have moved 4 times in the last 10 years due to my husband’s job and we currently reside right outside of the city of Boston in Medford, MA.

I am a Stay-at-Home Mom and also work from home as an Online Health & Fitness Coach.  I am an American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certified Group Fitness Instructor, an ACE Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and passionate about empowering other busy moms.

I want to share my story with you today.  It is one about redefining who you are after marriage, children and life happens – a reminder that there is always an opportunity for you to write a new chapter of your story.

My background is in teaching High School Math – both my undergrad and graduate degrees are in teaching.  And I LOVED teaching.  However, shortly after getting married I realized that I would become a trailing spouse, a term often used to describe a person who follows his or her life partner to another city because of a work assignment.     And then when Owen came along, we made the decision to have me stay at home with him.   Best decision EVER!!!!!

We spent that first year of his life together, experiencing all the firsts, – rolling over, first words, crawling, walking, throwing a ball, dancing, singing, and more.   We made so many memories during that special time that I knew that I could never go back to working outside of the home.   I didn’t want to miss out on this short period of his life, and I knew we were going to have more kids.    However, it wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns.

I still wanted something more – to be part of something bigger than myself.   Being a stay at home mom can be very isolating and lonely.   The days can be long and frustrating, and some days it seems like I couldn’t even find time to shower.   There was a lot about my professional life that I was missing and I knew I needed find a happy medium.

And that’s how my involvement in Health & Fitness came about.

A fellow stay-at-home mommy friend, (also a former teacher),  suggested I look into teaching group fitness classes.   It could be a way to have something to call my own, without a major 9am-5pm commitment.    So I went for it!!!

I studied hard, every day during nap time and at night after Owen would fall asleep (He was about 9 months at the time).   I had to learn anatomy, physiology, biology – things I never studied in college.  And thank goodness I passed the big exam!!!

Well little did I know that from that certification would be born a life-long passion of mine.   A couple years after our 2nd was born, I decided to take that passion and apply it to Online Health and Fitness coaching.  Not only have I gone on my own post-partum health & fitness journey  (which I will share more about in my next post), but I have had the priviledge and pleasure of helping hundreds of other busy mamas just like myself learn how to prioritize self-care.

I take pride in being able to spend my working hours empowering other women and helping them make life-long changes of their own.

PLUS, I can work from home, be with my kids, and build a business when it works for our family.

So I ask you to open up your mind to possibilities.  You never know what the future may have in store for you or what path life might take you down.
